We Fall Down: Nurturing your Resilience with Self-Care

Sometimes you may feel like giving up, but don’t. Take time for your wellness to help grow your resilience.

Falling Down

If you’ve ever listened to gospel music, you may have heard a song that goes, “We fall down, but we get up.” In the end, it continues with, “You can get back up again.” This song is reflective of how we live our lives as women.

Do you ever feel like you just can’t win? Are there times when it seems as though there are secret elves that have been hired by some evil villain to ruin every bit of your day? Your week? Your LIFE? I know I have felt like this many times including this past week, and it can make you want to give up.

There are many reasons our lives may not go according to plan. Sometimes they are beyond our control, and sometimes they are self-inflicted. Regardless, what we do in these times can make or break our character and our reputations with our loved ones who are quietly watching.

Are you a trampoline or quick sand?

A trampoline is designed to immediately release an object as soon as the object hits the surface. The harder the object hits it, the farther away it gets sent. Quicksand, on the other hand, is the opposite. Everything that falls in quicksand gets stuck. In fact, the more people or animals wiggle around in it, the faster they get consumed.

Are you able to let the adversities and challenges of your life bounce off of you like a trampoline, or do you get tripped up by even the smallest of tests?

Consuming the hurt and pain of life to the point of it getting stuck inside you will cause you to do two things:

  • You will start making overly cautious decisions based on that pain that doesn’t serve your best interest.
  • You will just give up.

Developing Resilience

Once you embrace the idea of total body wellness, you set a standard for your life that will help you grow your resiliency.

Give yourself guilt-free permission to focus on the self-care categories you need the most. It is okay to prioritize yourself and build your fortitude.

You may be down for a little while, but don’t stay there. You can bounce back or even forward as you find the resilience to be successful in life!
