Listen to Beck’s Poem, “My Truth” Here 👇🏾
She is Art
Hey there, beautiful reader! I am so happy that you have come across this article. My name is Rebecca Lee, Beck for short. I have an art business where we create commission art canvases and crystal jewelry pieces. My business name is She is Art. I came across this name at the beginning of my healing journey. I was struggling with self-worth and negative thinking. There were days when I was at rock bottom, debating if I should continue to play this game of life anymore. But I’m not here to play the victim and have any of you beautiful beings pity me. The truth is, we all have a sad story, a sad past, in which we have had to climb out to see the view from the top.
Art Saved Me
I used art as an escape from the world. When I painted, I became the creator of the universe that I internally visualized. It became therapeutic. So I dove right in. I used my self-image as a reference for many of my earlier pieces. This reference helped me look at myself from a new perspective. I, Beck, the woman who struggled to find self-worth, now was the muse for my art.
Doing the Work
I embraced my beauty from the inside, and it didn’t stop there! I began to do shadow work and journaling. I asked myself the “tough” questions that are sometimes hard to answer. It takes being honest and accountable to yourself.
I was horrible at procrastinating (and still to this day battle with it), but when I started to ask myself, “What am I doing with my time?” or “What steps can I take to accomplish this goal?” it created a clear path for me to see the problem. It was me! I was the one not making my dream a priority by choosing other actions instead of the necessary actions. A little Q&A with yourself is something I recommend for anyone who is trying to tap into a higher frequency of themselves.
I am here to encourage you to keep going. Do not feel as though you aren’t deserving of good things because YOU MOST CERTAINLY ARE!
The rest of this article will focus on simple exercises incorporating art methods that will serve as a powerful tool to tap into self-love. I have two methods that I’ll be discussing here. The first exercise may sound silly initially, but it is SOOOO beneficial to this process. Trust me!
Affirming Exercise #1
We all want love because we are human. It’s literally in our nature to want to be loved. However, society has tricked us into believing that we can only receive love from another person, which is not the case at all! We cannot love anyone else if we do not love ourselves first. So with that being said, our first exercise is: A Love Letter to Me. It is pretty simple, but don’t get ahead of the game. You may be tempted to mention physical attributes that you enjoy about yourself, and that is awesome. I challenge you to dive deeper and write about your morals, beliefs, and character traits that you also love about yourself.
Therapeutic, wasn’t it?
Affirming Exercise #2
Okay, now for the next one: Authentically Me. I chose acrylic paint and a canvas for mine, but whatever you have at your disposal is okay. Crayons and a blank piece of paper will do just fine if you’re not a painter. You can set up a table mirror or do this in front of a full-length mirror. The point of the mirror is so you can see and admire ALL the beauty that is radiating from your divine self! I like to encourage everyone to do more of an abstract theme. Some people get intimidated because they would say they aren’t artistically inclined, and that is why abstract is so liberating. It can be anything: triangles for eyes, a heart for your nose, or even written Affirmations for the strands of your hair! All forms of art interpretations are welcome here.
This is a judgment-free zone, and yes, that includes the little voice in your head that always creates doubt. During this exercise, try your best to silence her/him! I have also found that with incense, sage, or Palo Santo burning and the healing frequencies of sound bowls in the background, the atmosphere of this whole process has been that much more freeing in my healing journey.
Find Your Inner Greatness
These are only two examples that helped me, and I know in my spirit they will help you! I thank you so much for your time in reading this. I hope I was able to speak life into you. You are so powerful, really you are. Whatever dream or goal you long for in your heart is attainable! The first step is to change the perspective that was programmed into us. For so long, we have been told this life is about working, eating, and sleeping when in reality, we are the creators of our world. We get to decide every day when we wake up what it is we believe. I believe we are all greatness, and the same greatness that exists in me exists in you too! All it takes is a little change of perspective!
