It’s About Time You Accomplish Your Goals!

How would you spend your last days?

One day, I asked my son a question someone had once posed to me. I said to him, “What would you do with your time if you knew you had ten years left to live, and at the end of the ten years, you dropped dead?” Of course, he answered me with the typical response of someone who feels ten years is a long time.

Then I asked him what he would do if he only had ten months, ten weeks, or ten days. As he processed what he would do, you could tell that his answers became more thoughtful, sentimental, and focused on his goals. It was interesting to watch. This simple yet profound thought experiment with my son opened my eyes to a fundamental truth about human nature.

When we feel that we have plenty of time for our goals, our sense of urgency decreases, and procrastination sets in. We wait for the perfect scenario before we execute.
“When I get enough money… I will…”
“I will do … after I lose enough weight.”

Unpredictable Time

The tricky thing about life is that, unlike my little thought experiment with my son, we cannot predict our last breath. So, if you have an unmet goal, don’t sit around waiting for the “perfect situation” to come together before you begin to take action on your dreams.

It’s natural to fear failure, but remember, the only way to guarantee failure is by never starting. The clock is ticking, so don’t let fear and perfectionism-procrastination hold you back. Start now.

Going after your goals and dreams is a real self-care flex! Take care of yourself 🫶🏾.
